among the three versions of TOEFL. |
As an international curriculum, ChEPS expects a minimum proficiency of English in its students upon their graduation. More importantly, KMUTT has stipulated that all its graduate students are not allowed to graduate unless they pass one of the two TOEFL tests, namly 500 on paper-based TOEFL (PBT) or 178 on computer-based TOEFL (CBT). In the near future, the minimum score for Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) will be announced. Since official TOEFL can be prohibitively expensive for students, the School of Information Technology (IT) offers a version of PBT, called ITP-TOEFL, every two months for a nominal fee of 1,000 baht, which can be used to satisfy the KMUTT's English requirement. The only drawback is that the ITP-TOEFL score is not official and cannot be used outside KMUTT. Students interested in taking ITP-TOEFL may visit the following website for more information and to register for the test.
The minimum English score is a daunting task for most students, as their average TOEFL score when first enrolled in ChEPS is around 430. It is the students' responsibilities to beef up their English proficiency during their 2-year ChEPS tenure and pass the English requirement. An intensive English course is offered in the first summer but students with weak English fundamentals are encouraged to seek additional help. Interactions with ChEPS staff using English are strongly encouraged. Moreover, students are advised to immerse themselves in English by reading more English newspapers, magazines, and books. In some cases, personal English tutors may be needed. ChEPS may offer additional English courses outside the required curriculum in the first year, but this is by no means guaranteed. Finally, ChEPS will monitor the students' progress by either administering a TOEFL test or ask them to take the test at the School of IT at least once a year.

SAT I: Math
The SAT I Reasoning Test is used by universities and colleges in the US for the admission of their undergraduates. The test consists of three parts, namely Math, Writing, and Critical Reading, and is nearly 4 hours long. The scaled score for each part has a range between 200 and 800. Hence, the lowest possible score for SAT I is 600 and the highest possible score is 2,400.
This is a pilot test to establish if there is a correlation between the students' academic performance in ChEPS and the SAT Math score. The same test will be given to Class10 as well. If there is a direct positive correlation, the SAT Math test will be given to all ChEPS applicants and used as another criterion in the admission of our students.
